2011/12 Camden League Report

The Golden Eagles started this season, their third in the SoccerSixes Camden League, with a degree of uncertainty following a self imposed exile where other projects took priority and it wasn’t possible to guarantee a starting six every Sunday.

The season started quite well with a run of 4 wins and a draw in the first 5 matches. In fact, it wasn’t until match day 10 that the Golden Eagles experienced the bitter taste of defeat, at the hands of Gospel Oak. This was the month of March and the Golden Eagles had been top of the table from day one, but the defeat coupled with wasteful draws against TG Sky Blues (match day 9) and Roaul Moatrid (match day 11) proved to be the turning point. From here on it was playing catch up; win your matches and hope for an upset to the leaders.

The league season came back to life on match day 14 when the Golden Eagles gave a 6-a-side footballing master class and beat Gospel Oak 2-0. The impressive win was even more significant due to Gospel Oak drawing the previous week, with  six matches left to play, there was one point between the two teams, same goal difference and one head-to-head left.

What followed were four consecutive wins for both teams, some convincing others not so but still wins that set the tone for the decider on match day 19. However, the much awaited top of the table clash didn’t live up to the expectations. The Golden Eagles just didn’t turn up at all on the day playing without real intent and making it all very easy for Gospel Oak. Three points clear at the top of the league going into the last match of the season, Gospel Oak could even lose and still be champions. They didn’t though, nor did the Golden Eagles who hope to carry their winning ways into the new season.

Congratulations and well done to Gospel Oak once again, this was a very close season though and the Golden Eagles managed to break the duck and won a match against them – will next season be a return to the top?

Silver lining for the Golden Eagles right at the end of this season was the new kit sponsorship agreement with Environ Air Solutions Ltd.

Played 20 matches, 15 wins, scored 134 goals, best attack in the league.
