vs TEAM BEAU [L 2-3]

AAAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!! A week is almost gone and we still have not digested this loss, we wanted it so bad and failed. It has been even hard to get a few lines together for this match report. Anyway, let’s do it.

The Golden Eagles lined up with Julian in goal, Limbz (C) and Jordz in defence, Dan in midfield and Henrick upfront. Vinnie and Julious were the players on rotation. And, the team actually started the match quite well; good pressure and composure on the ball, spreading play well and creating chances from the word go. But, the shooting boots just weren’t on.

The first half saw play after play on The Eagles right side that ended with shots across goal narrowly missing the far post. Dan, Limbz, Julious and Henrick (a few times) dragged their shots just wide of the post. The opening goal eluded The Eagles and that known footballing rule was about to come true: “if you got chances and don’t score, you will be punished!”. And, punished we were, once at the end of the first half and another at the beginning of the second.

With The Eagles 0-2 down with little of the second half elapsed, Henrick finally found the net. The play was, again, developed on the right channel and Henrick did very well to wriggle his way through a crowd of players, and as the ball was about to roll over the keeper’s area, he hit it with a toe poke, 1-2 game on!

The goals sparked the team to suddenly become more inventive, no longer ‘right-side bound’ but there was still a lot of confusing play, mainly due to the way Team Beau were quick to close the ball down. In a shift of play, Henrick found himself on the left channel with an awkward bouncing ball in front of him between two opposing players. Out of nowhere, he took a swing at it with his left foot and hit the sweetest of volleys that arrowed straight at the far post, but now inside the post. Match levelled 2-2 with The Eagles in the ascendency!

Time passed though, and the score line remained the same. As the final whistle beckoned, play was stretched with both teams searching for a winner, and it was The Eagles that allowed Team Beau’s striker too much time on the ball to hit a well placed shot that creeped under the keeper’s body. That was the winner, and the last play in the match.

Final score: 2 – 3, the Golden Eagles drop to second place. And, winning the league is no longer in our hands alone… Aargh!
